Local to Global: environmental politics

SERA were pleased to hold a seminar at the recent Compass conference in June, discussing the way forward for the environmental movement. Compass delegates enjoyed an excellent discussion on both the barriers facing and opportunities for, the environmental movement

It was largely felt by the meeting that the environment had been marginalised as a topic during the election, and that this was a mistake by the Labour leadership. The environment has been shown to be an area where Labour had both made progress, and could woo potential Liberal Democrat voters in some key seats.

2005 will be an extraordinary year. One in which a vocal majority of the western world stood up to be counted against poverty and injustice. The Compass delegates made it clear that SERA must continue to press for environmental justice, and to emphasise the vital role it plays in the ultimate goal of social justice.
